Interior design consultation or complete project: which does your apartment need?
A consultation clarifies one defined problem; a complete project coordinates all decisions that reach construction.
Choosing the right level of design support
When a consultation is enough
A consultation suits a limited question with clear information: selecting a palette, reviewing a layout, positioning a sofa, choosing fittings or obtaining a second opinion. Agree the output in advance, whether verbal recommendations, a sketch, decision list or visual direction.
Consultation does not replace technical drawings when services move, complex joinery is designed or several trades need coordination. Without dimensions, specifications and cross-checking, each contractor may interpret the same recommendation differently.
What a complete project resolves
A complete project treats the apartment as a system: survey, planning, concept, visualisation, power, lighting, ceilings, flooring, finishes and joinery. Confirm the precise scope in the proposal because package names vary between studios.
Choose a complete project when renovation begins from zero, the layout changes, substantial fitted furniture is required or the budget must be coordinated across categories. Documentation is valuable when decisions depend on one another and site corrections would be expensive.
Preparing the first conversation
For the first discussion, prepare the plan, area, photographs, handover condition, desired timing and a realistic budget range. Add references, but also explain routines, items that must remain and current problems. This helps the studio recommend an appropriate service level.
Request written deliverables, stages and revisions, timing, communication method and support after handover. Compare proposals on equivalent scope rather than price per square metre alone. A shorter proposal may exclude the drawings needed for implementation.
